Because yes, we’re finally seeing some progress!
Here’s what *should* be working now:
Search in the galleries and artist directories has been fixed for all IE customers.
Formatting problems on Art of the Day should be fixed for all IE customers.
Generating COAs for work that is already in your portfolio *should* be working for most customers. Be aware there are now required fields that must be filled before generation is enabled.
Generating templates for work that is already in your portfolio *should* be working for most customers.
Show entry for work that is already in your portfolio is working for *some* customers. This is still in progress.
Here’s what we’re still working on:
Uploading new work
Editing new/existing work
Managing your personal galleries
Submitting work to EBSQ galleries
Some odd page rendering for IE customers
Adding back in tools like counters, stats, & creating logos
Thanks you all for your patience with our growing pains. We’ll check back in later today with more updates!
We’ve been working around the clock to correct the most urgent issues. Namely, IE browser compatibility issues and getting ALL of the tools current tools (uploading, sorting, COAs, & templates) working for ALL of our customers. Once this is done, we’ll start working on getting other tools back online (counters, stats, etc) and other individual technical issues.
We know this is rather poor timing since all of you are gearing up for the holiday season. We’re truly sorry for the inconvenience we know this is causing you. It’s my sincere hope to make this right for each and every one of you as soon as possible.
In the interim, hang in there, kids! And please, give Firefox, Safari, Chrome, or Opera a try. (Pretty please!)
I’ll report back as soon as there’s news. And now, back to the grindstone I go!
Well, today wasn’t exactly the launch day we’ve been dreaming of for months. A lot of the things that worked in development simply aren’t working as expected when hit with a ton of traffic and real users. Most notable of the issues is that pretty much every single site feature that queries our database is broken in Internet Explorer (IE). We’re working on resolving those issues so there’s smooth sailing across all browser platforms. In the interim, might we suggest giving Chrome, Firefox, or Opera a try?
Uploads and new COA creation still isn’t available. Trust me when I say that’s our top priority. We are literally nothing without your art! Templates do seem to be working in some browsers, but not in others.
Stats and counters are still on the waiting list. They’ll be coming after the more pressing tech issues have been addressed.
I’m not going to lie, it’s been a long, hard, miserable day, and I totally feel the same frustrations you all do. But the silver lining (for me, anyhow) is that I got to interact with so many of you, including people I haven’t heard from in ages (hi!) here in our blog, on the forums, via twitter, via email, and even on my personal facebook page! Thank you for the good feedback. And the bad! We hear you, and when all of the kinks are worked out, we’re going to have an even better site thanks to each and every one of you.
In case you missed it, we relaunched last night! It’s been a big bug extermination fest since then. I don’t think even we here at EBSQ fully appreciated how many moving parts we have until we started tracking down issues we didn’t realize would be a problem. Here’s a list of what we’re working on as known issues:
Counters are still counting, but can’t be deleted or cleared just yet. You can find them here:
We are aware AOTD did not go out quite as we expected. Those issues were addressed last night and everything should go out as planned tomorrow.
We’ve gotten email inquiries regarding stats. This feature isn’t live yet but will be available again soon.
We’re aware EBSQ logos in existing templates aren’t showing up yet. That will be fixed later today.
Search still seems to be pointing to the development server’s database. That will also be fixed later today.
Some members appear to be missing artist statements; we’re looking into why now.
Some members have mentioned their ArtCase is loading very slowly or getting stuck. We’re also looking into that issue.
Do you have a bug you’d like to report? Please do so in our Tech Support Forum so we can easily keep track of all of the issues in one centralized place.
Thank you all for your patience with this process. Hopefully we’ll get over the early speedbumps soon and get back to some smooth sailing.
Thanks for your patience today, folks! The first stage of the relaunch is done! Now, I want to caution that what you see is a work in progress. We know there are some functions that aren’t completely live yet, and we’re squashing bugs as quickly as we find them.
Check it out! http://www.ebsqart.com
We’ve asked folks to report bugs directly on the EBSQ Tech Support Forum. Now just a reminder (since a few moments ago, I forgot myself) that you WILL have to log back into the forums at the top of the page to be able to post. Since everything was changed over, it’s not going to remember your cookies. If folks need help accessing the forum, give us a holler at email@example.com and we’ll get to you as soon as we can during normal office hours tomorrow.
So–whaddaya think? Was it worth the wait? What’s your favourite new bit?
We’ve been working on the actual launch of the relaunch for the past few hours. Here’s where things stand. All of your data has been backed up. We’re now in the process of marrying all of the data bits on the old (current) site to all of the corresponding bits in the new version of the code. Meaning no offense to the doctors out there, but it’s a bit like surgery as each piece is meticulously stitched up, and it’s unfortunately a time-consuming process.
Once we’ve connected all of the A’s to all of the B’s (yes, I am bringing out every metaphor in the book today, lol) you’ll see what a amounts to an entirely new website using all of your original data. It’ll take a wee bit of time to make sure everything is working properly. Once we’re sure everything is stable (ish) and happy, we’ll leave read-only status and you’ll be able to play.
One word of warning: not all of the features that were available on the old site will be live right away. We want to make sure everything is more or less working before we add in more moving parts. I want to thank each and every one of you in advance for your patience with this process.
Onward and upward!
Here’s the announcement that you’ve all been waiting for: the next decade of EBSQ kicks off with a total-site makeover within the next 24 hours! We wanted to give you a heads up as to what to expect. As we change the new code over from the beta site to the main servers, things will temporarily go into read-only mode. That means you won’t be able to post new items on the forums, upload art, generate COAs or templates, or otherwise modify your profiles. If you’re planning to list new auctions this weekend or prep artwork to ship with an EBSQ COA, for example, it might be a good idea to upload your images and prepare your templates in advance.
Now, we’re expecting things to be *mostly* bug free, but we’re counting on you guys to keeps us on our toes and give the new site code a good work out and help us to find all the issues that simply won’t be apparent until the site is getting normal use. Report your bugs in the EBSQ tech support forum (please try to use descriptive titles instead of just “Help!”), and please if you have a bug, we ask that you check and see if it’s already being handled before reporting it again. And if it’s something new, PLEASE let us know because if you’re having a problem, likely some other member is as well. They thank you in advance for speaking up.
Thanks for your patience and for sticking with EBSQ. This new release is just the beginning. The best is yet to come!
