EBSQ Blogger of the Week: Janell Berryman

For the month of October, Tuesday’s will focus on EBSQ Bloggers who create imaginative artworks of Fantasy, Whimsy and the Spooky! Today’s artist is the embodiment of all things Halloween (and Christmas). The holidays wouldn’t be the same without her!

Who and where are you?

My name is Janell Berryman.  I currently live in the pacific northwest and I am a folk artist.  I create unique frightfully sweet sculptures from clay.  Mostly based around my favorite holiday, Halloween.

How did you get started art blogging?

I started blogging and connecting with other artists approximately 5 years ago.  Once I started the blog it quickly became a great source of sharing on a more personal level.  I mostly use the blog as a place for posting current information on when new art will be added to my personal website.  It offers a heads up to the ones who subscribe.

Any tips for other EBSQ art bloggers?

I would suggest posting weekly information on either what you are doing or newest items available. This keeps you in customers minds.  I personally try and keep my blog strictly with just work related information.  Once in a blue moon I break this rule but I do keep it basically directed about art.

What’s your musical inspiration of choice when you’re working in your studio?

Music is a huge part of my day.  Not only does it take away the sounds of distraction in the home but it also is so comforting.  I have a collection of candles that I also burn while sculpting.  Not just one but several.  I mostly listening to artists who keep it on the mellow side.  Soft instrumentals and vocals is what I prefer.  Occasionally letting some good old fashioned rock n roll to get the day started.

What’s coming next from your easel?

Next in my book of sketches are some Halloween sculptures.  I am thinking about what new twist to add to this skeleton man I am working on.  On paper I have a skeleton crow rider carrying a few pumpkins, a tall pumpkin figure holding a skull and a few graveyard angels.  Excited to get these ready October.
