King David Danced - Alma Lee

I have always loved drawing and detailing with color pencils, but until recently I had no idea of their virtually unlimited potential for PAINTING. Not only do color pencils have the same depth, and vibrancy of color, but they also have the added precision of a graphite pencil that results in a satin-like glowing finish rivaling oil.  New innovations and materials made it possible to “paint” on a variety of substrates previously off limits; including wood and MDF fiber panels. During my LIVE presentation I will be demonstrating some of the possibilities of Color Pencil, in a step-by-step visual diary of my painting process.

About the presenter:
Alma Lee with a degree in Marketing Communications studied both Fine Art and Marketing, at Stout University and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Wisconsin. Is a full time art licensor and artist living and working in Green Bay WI.

About a month ago, I saw a tweet from my friend Tara Hunt (social media maven and author of the recent “The Whuffie Factor”) talking about something that involved a Winnebago, social media, whuffie, karaoke, and Pittsburgh.  Volunteering to help out was a no-brainer.  Jump to this week and we’re pleased to announce that EBSQ and the Pittsburgh Technology Council will be hosting Whuffaoke or Bust this Saturday at the Pgh Tech HQ  (2000 Technology Drive, Pittsburgh 15219) at 7:30pm.  If you’re in town this weekend, we hope you’ll stop by. Rumour has it there will be some EBSQ swag up for grabs and there’s a good chance you’ll get to hear me sing (badly, lol).

Soft pastels are the purest form of painting material available. They are made from pure pigment, with just enough binder to form the pigment into a usable stick. I love their brilliance and intensity of color, but it is the immediacy of soft pastels that has made them my favorite medium. During my LIVE presentation, I will demonstrate my process of painting, step-by-step from start to finish.

Kari Tirrell is a self-taught artist living in Gig Harbor, Washington.

Polymer clay is one of the newest and most exciting mediums in the fine craft world, and it’s fast becoming one of the most popular. It is inexpensive, easy to use and doesn’t require a lot of equipment. I’m going to be demonstrating a few basic but fascinating techniques, such as the Skinner Blend, simple cane making, and the use of alcohol inks and silver leaf.

About the presenter:
Lauren Abrams has been creating art and fine crafts in one form or another for about 35 years. She lives in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania with her husband and a variety of woodland creatures, such as deer, turkeys and black bears.

This coming July, we’ll be hosting our 9th annual Ripped Off show!

If you haven’t done a Ripped show in the past, here’s how it works: you pair up with someone, and go through their portfolio and “rip off” a piece of their artwork. It can be one piece or a combination, your interpretation of their work, ideas, medium, technique. We invite you to check out past years’ exhibits to get an idea of the sort of things you can do. You must pair up with someone from EBSQ. Rip Offs of non-EBSQ art, like redoing the Mona Lisa or ripping off Picasso is not allowable for this show.

So, start pairing up! If you’re looking for a partner, sign up here, or feel free to contact someone privately and see if they’d like to partner with you, then post it here to let us know you’re paired. Have at it!

This is like any other show, you can have up to 5 entries…
